Toenail Problems

One of the most widespread toenail problems across the globe is the growth of nails inwards into the flesh or ingrown toenails as they are more commonly known. The tricky part about detecting this problem is the fact that when it actually starts, we often do not realize it – the victims starts feeling pain only when the nail has actually grown inwards and not while it’s about to grow. The results might vary from minor pain to major swelling and the worst case scenario is the swelling infecting the surrounding flesh and slowly eating it up. Waiting it out might not be the best idea; in fact it’s more advisable to consult a physician and getting the nail out of the flesh through a small surgery involving local anaesthesia. The most common cause of such a problem is the stubbornness of people to choose style over comfort. A lot of victims embarrassingly admit that they owned footwear where they had to cram their toes together instead of wearing something that let their toes breathe free and allow ample space to provide adequate comfort. Having said that, it is also possible to have ingrown toenails as a result of improper trimming and a little knowledge of how to trim nails in the correct manner might go a long way in avoiding such an irritation.

There’s another kind of toenail problems that generally takes shape due to the presence of fungus in the toes. The fungus gets accumulated due to lack of hygiene and care from the soon-to-be victim’s end. Often, tucking the feet into non-ventilated footwear such as formal shoes while the toes are still wet, or excessive sweating in the toes can lead to fungus growth which if continued over time leads to infection and gradually to rotting of the flesh. Scary, isn’t it? Hence it is super important to wear footwear which lets air in at all times, and wear clean socks. Once the fungal growth spreads, anti-fungal ointments can marginally reduced the spread while a change in diet and major changes in hygiene practices are necessary to avoid and eradicate such infections from the toenail problems.

Gist of the whole article is – wear footwear that’s comfortable, clean socks and keep the feet dry. Only then can major toenail problems be avoided.
